The Role
The Association, Union, and Trust (AUT) Contract Development team is a unique team within Contract Development that executes on the intersection of the Group Benefits portfolio of (product) forms with the filing requirements applied to non-employer group types (e.g., associations, unions, trusts). The Manager of AUT Contract Development is responsible for the direct management of the team responsible for preparing case specific filing submissions (+ supporting documentation), preparing responses to insurance regulators' questions/requests, and negotiating approvals with state insurance departments. The work product of this team is crucial in ensuring a compliant offering is available for AUT group customers.
As the leader of this team, the candidate will have responsibility for delivering upon the needs of the market segment's customer base through strategic and efficient use of resources (5 direct reports). The manager acts as a subject matter expert on issues (e.g., product, compliance, etc.) involving the AUT product portfolio (Life, Dental, Vision, Disability, Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, and Legal). The position requires strong leadership, organization, and managerial skills to oversee the team's deliverables which include aspects of compliance, form development/drafting, and some issuance responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Drive strategic and case specific solutions supporting AUT group customers.
Deliver customer focused, operationally efficient, and compliant solutions.
Manage workflow to meet the needs of our internal and external customers.
Provide requirements, training, and consultation for the issuance of filed forms across multiple market solutions.
Serve as a subject matter expert for partners and others in the organization (e.g., extra-territoriality requirements, filing requirements, etc.).
Maintain an in-depth awareness and knowledge of MetLife products and processes; as well as group insurance provisions, insurance laws and regulations pertaining to enrollment forms and filing procedures.
Responsible for state insurance department filings, drafting, documenting, and addressing state variations and handling compliance initiatives, which ensure alignment of forms to state filings and state requirements, and on-going regulatory compliance to minimize regulatory exposure.
Establish strong relationships and partner with Product Development, Service, Actuarial, Operations, Government Relations, Legal, Project Management Office, Sales, Underwriting and other key partners to set team priorities.
Research and respond to internal and external customer questions regarding contract features and compliance.
Assist in the analysis of proposed and enacted laws and regulations to identify required compliance activities.
Provide analysis/technical expertise and due diligence of new product ventures.
Offer expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams needed to support new and existing projects and product launches.
Design, improve and update operational processes.
Engage, motivate, train, and develop the team.
Required Qualifications:
Significant insurance contract drafting, compliance, and/or group insurance experience.
Knowledge of Group Benefits and partner organizations.
Effective resource and project management experience involving diverse and complex initiatives.
Capability to develop strategic solutions and processes and exhibited superior analytical ability to handle detailed requests.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of management.
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities simultaneously, establish and meet deadlines, coordinate activities with other departments and perform job with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong computer skills - Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Strong leadership and organizational skills with ability to make decisive sound business decisions and ability to coach & mentor
