Summary

Strode Montessori is located in the heart of downtown and has 1 infant classroom, 2 toddler classrooms and 2 preschool primary classrooms. We need to add an energetic, loving, patient assistant to our team. We have a Montessori classroom and the assistant must be able to adjust from a more traditional environment. We are looking for a preschool aide (2.5-5 yr olds) and a toddler aide (1.5-3 yr olds).
Hours will be 8:30-5:30 Monday-Friday.
Starting salary based on PATCH registry qualification.

Duties

Responsibilities may include:
o The duties of a child care aide vary from day to day depending on the schedule of activities for the day. It is necessary that the child care aide is flexible and willing to do whatever needs to be done. It is also important that he/she learn to go ahead and carry out the duties assigned to her without waiting to be told what to do. Responsibilities that may be assigned are listed below:
o All children must be seen by at least one teacher or aide at all times with minimal adjustment to one’s body.
o Helps children accept the center and participate in its activities.
o Helps children learn the established routines of the center.
o Helps to develop in the children a sense of “belonging” in the center.
o Helps children to become more independent in removing own garments, assisting in good housekeeping habits.
o Guides children in helping to keep the center clean and attractive.
o Helps children to develop positive, acceptable attitudes toward food and eating.
o Prepares mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks and assists the children to set the table for noon meal.
o Assists in arranging mats on the floor for children’s rest period.
o Assists children in returning blankets to cubbies.
o Assumes some responsibility, under supervision, for play and learning experiences of children.
o May relieve teacher for short periods, when needed, by reading stories, conducting finger plays, and leading songs.
o Helps prepare and assemble play materials needed by teacher and/or director.
o Arranges physical environment, under supervision of director, so it is appropriate for play and learning experiences of children.
o Assists children with routines, such as toileting, washing and drying hands, and lunchtime routine.
o Assists in administering first aid for children’s minor accidents, cuts, bruises, and bites.
o Helps and maintain health and safety of the children at the center during rest and play.
o Helps children establish sanitary habits appropriate to their age level.
o Practices safety with children, such as sorting toys that may be unsafe
o Observe accepted procedures for reporting accidents and signs of illness or discomfort in children.
o Works cooperatively with center staff and accepts instruction and guidance from the director.
o Participates in staff planning and evaluation sessions concerning center policies and programs.
o Helps to evaluate own process in meeting responsibilities to the center.
o Observes policies of the center concerning work schedule, absences, and health regulations.
o Follows regularly assigned schedule of responsibilities and assumes other responsibilities as needed.
o Assumes responsibilities for maintaining cleanliness and attractiveness of the center during the day.
o Communicating with parents verbally during pickup and drop-off and via daily electronic communication.

Requirements

1 year of work experience in an ECE setting.
